Property Accountant

This is a Contract position in Barnegat, NJ posted March 27, 2020.

One of the top Retail Real Estate Developers in the Northeast, located in the Lakewood, NJ area is currently seeking an experienced/qualified Property Accountant to join their team. The perfect candidate will have targeted experience with a shopping center developer, be confident in their abilities, and be a polished/professional able to acclimate to a casual/professional culture and work with an established team of professionals, that work cohesively to achieve success.

  • To generate, report and analyze financial statements for a select group of properties as assigned. 
  • For external and internal investors, prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages. This includes managing to ensure all processes to produce these results are done timely and accurately. 
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of all Balance Sheet accounts. 
  • Maintain relationships with Property Managers to facilitate mutual communication and understanding of a project operations and status. Coordinate and communicate with Property Management teams to constantly analyze and amend our plans to achieve financial and operation objectives. 
  • Monitor property cash flow status including ensuring proper funding of escrows and reserves. 
  • Work with internal staff for accuracy and timeliness of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. 
  • Participate in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and actual variance explanations, in coordination with Property Managers. 
  • Prepare and post journal entries such as accruals, prepaids, and fixed asset depreciation/amortization. 
  • Maintain relationships with external investors with emphasis on lender reporting requirements. 
  • Prepare CAM, Real Estate Tax, and Insurance annual adjustments and estimated billings. Manage any CAM audits that arise out of such billings. 
  • Participate in the year-end Audit process including preparing materials and supporting documentation as well as providing and responding to auditor inquiries and supplemental information requests in a timely manner. 
  • Maintain excellent documentation to support transactions. 
  • Prepare special financial reports such as owner’s requests, special lender reporting requirements, and controller requests. 
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of mortgage payments. 

Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred. General Ledger accounting background required. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills as well as being able to effectively manage multiple tasks required. Experience in the commercial real estate accounting industry with a solid grasp of property management accounting workflow processes a plus. Familiarity and experience with Yardi software is preferred.
