This is a Contract position in Lawrence Township, NJ posted June 22, 2020.

The Mechanical/Electrical Engineer position is a dual role. Experience in both are required with a minimum of 5 years of experience local / communtable to our Lawrence Township, NJ plant.

On the Mechanical side the position is to identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. The role will identify and implement improvement activities that result in sustained product and operational cost reductions in a high speed/high volume manufacturing facility. On the Electrical side the position is accountable for the planning, development, design, and maintenance of control systems in the facility as assigned. Specific accountabilities include: evaluating manufacturing processes to improve product quality, process efficiencies and machine reliability; failure analyses; developing new control systems and modifying existing systems; leading project activities in the areas of controls/electrical design and equipment integration.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze equipment downtime data and develop & manage a process that will drive OEM uptime and lower costs
  • Utilize the Downtime tracking system (Shoplogix) to cut out main downtime issues for the critical assets in the factory and lead a team to reduce the chief downtime issues
  • Develop and lead the reliability process
  • Leverage network and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) subject matter experts to develop reliability efforts through enhanced communication and best practice sharing
  • Through analytical tools, work with Operations to identify equipment end of life (EOL) opportunities, required equipment and process upgrades and develop & manage long-term capital investment plans
  • Own and regularly respond with subject matter expertise to maintenance/equipment related questions, own access to and distribution of OEM technical bulletin updates, and facilitate strong communication with OEM vendors
  • Provides input into capital budget to drive improved reliability
  • Give recommendations for spare parts of equipment
  • Support maintenance personnel during equipment overhauls and unscheduled outages
  • Performing Root Cause Analysis of systems and subsystems within a manufacturing environment
  • Monitor and improve machine process, develop work instructions and train employees
  • Participate in implementing safety improvements
  • Design, program, analyze and repair electrical drives and control units including configuring PLC motor controls and electrical protection
  • Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting Programmable Electronic Systems
  • Participate in projects that support in reducing downtime and scrap
  • Organize, plan and commission new or modified production lines
  • Modify control system logic and industrial machinery to optimize equipment performance and control
  • Investigate operational problems affecting production in a systematic and methodical manner
  • Work with the Maintenance team to improve the skill level of the electricians
  • Assist maintenance & operations personnel by troubleshooting and resolving equipment problems as necessary. Ensure preventative and predictive maintenance compliance
  • Programs software to configure and/or make modifications to automated systems and process control systems, which will include maintaining a backup library of robotic, PLC and other instrumentation software

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering discipline; preferably Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 5-7 years of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering experience required.
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems and automated downtime tracking systems
  • Knowledge of proper equipment design and proper operation
  • Working knowledge of high-volume manufacturing and of Stamping, Welding, Forming, Automation
  • Understand and/or perform SPC, FMEA, CA (Criticality Analysis), Root-cause and Root-Cause Failure Analysis (RCA, RCFA)
  • Project Management experience preferred
  • Read and understand pneumatic, hydraulic, electric and electronic documentation and drawings and interpret equipment data
  • Perform PLC programming & diagnostics on various systems and troubleshoot electrical equipment such as: Relays, contactors, overloads, timers; Photo detection & proximity switches or light curtains
  • Strong understanding of Allen Bradley Control Systems, RS Logic 5000 & Seimens S7
  • Experience with Robotics – Fanuc, Toshiba
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work alone, or in a team environment with limited supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent computer and data analysis skills. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. SAP & Data Analysis (such as Minitab) experience a plus.
