Science Medical Director

Job Summary The Science Medical Director demonstrates strong people leadership, business development and project management skills.

Provides leadership and direction for program planning and execution, with the aim of thrilling our clients.

Manages project deliverables directly through the in-house as well as contract staff reporting to him/her.

Serves as the focal point for client communications for a diverse set of initiatives, from conceptual development through program delivery.

The Science Medical Director must listen to our client, always searching for how to provide the best solutions for their needs through current service delivery and seeking additional ways to provide scientific as well as other solutions.

Works collaboratively with the rest of the JOLT team to deliver solutions to the client on time, within budget, and with a focus on innovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Quickly become an expert on JOLT’s vision, values, and unique value proposition, as well as JOLT’s product and service offerings.

Serve as both a brand ambassador for JOLT’s unique value proposition and a strategic advisor to JOLT’s CEO.

• Understand and embrace the goals of each client, and act as the voice of the client to the internal JOLT team.

Interact frequently and proactively with the client, ask the right questions, listen intently, and develop (along with the internal JOLT team) the right solutions to fulfill the client’s needs.

• Leverage and expand existing network to engage global scientific experts on behalf of clients.

Grow, develop and enhance long-term relationships with these experts.

• Apply expertise on client needs, regulatory approval processes, and SOPs for medical professional engagement solutions, which span the entire drug and medical product development cycle.

• Seek out new solutions for each client account, pitching for and closing new opportunities.

Plan for and participate in the client’s annual business planning process to ensure JOLT has a “seat at the table” for renewals and expanded business opportunities.

• Be an active contributor to a positive, innovative, collaborative and cooperative work environment.

• Supervise and lead the design and development process for client solutions – and deliver on these solutions.

Act as both a “leader” and a “doer” as needed for successful delivery of each client solution.

• Collaborate with the other directors and their teams to facilitate timely advancement and successful delivery of all projects.

• Advise senior management on critical scientific news, trends or potential project hurdles.

• Identify and champion innovative ideas and concepts for client acquisition.

• Be available for overnight travel up to 25-35% of the time.

• Perform other duties as requested and/or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Management, motivation and oversight of a team of Science Managers.

Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in medical or scientific field; PhD strongly preferred
· Minimum 5-7 years’ demonstrated experience in account management of medical communication or education programs in the life sciences industry
· Demonstrated experience leading and motivating a team to deliver projects on time, within budget and to the delight of clients
· Exceptional people management, project management and client relations skills
· Ability to understand pharmaceutical science and to explain its essence and its business implications to non-scientific audiences Special Skills and Abilities

• Ability to leverage and expand existing network of scientific experts and thought leaders, and to build and sustain relationships with clients and knowledge opinion leaders

• Outstanding organizational and time management skills; ability to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously
• Outstanding verbal, written and presentation skills
• Demonstrated business development and sales expertise; ability to secure renewed business and expand existing client engagements
• Passion for creative problem solving and for interacting with broad diversity of colleagues and clients
