Sr Software Engineer II

The Raytheon Systems and Software Test group within the Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS) Software Engineering directorate is seeking a qualified Air Traffic Integration Engineer. This position is targeted for the William J Hughes FAA Technical Center in Egg Harbor Township, NJ with initial effort at the Raytheon facility in Mt Laurel, NJ.

In this position, the candidate will provide support to the FAA for the STARS Program. Support tasking can include developing and executing detailed software test plans and procedures for STARS, software integration following the FAA process, investigation of software anomalies, developing software fixes and enhancements and conducting system trouble shooting. The candidate will work collaboratively with the customer and other contractors providing directed support to the STARS program. As part of the development process, the candidate will develop post-test data analysis and reporting, create test discrepancy reports to document issues and assist development with the investigation and resolution of issues. As part of the second level engineering team, the candidate will trouble shoot assigned issues and develop suggested solutions.

The candidate must be able to work both as an individual and as part of a team, meeting deadlines and providing accurate requirement compliant solutions. In this role, the candidate will provide weekly written and verbal status reports to the team and management. Collaborative communication is essential to work with team members, management, other program teams, and the customer. In this role, the candidate will create white papers, presentations and formal reports. The candidate must possess strong verbal/written communications skills enabling him/her to work effectively in a small technical team environment.

Most of the work is during standard business hours however, testing events may take place in evening hours. Overtime work and work during non-standard business hours can occur during testing events. Some travel can be expected, likely averaging less than one trip every three to four months.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to obtain an FAA clearance
  • 6+ years of Systems and/or Operational support on ATC Systems (FAA or DoD)
  • Knowledge of ATC concepts for example; ADSB, WAM (Wide Area Multilateration) and ATC Radar fusion
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to investigate and troubleshoot issues
  • Ability for occasional travel, typically no more than a week at a time
  • Ability to work occasional overtime and/or non-standard shifts

Desired Skills:

  • An understanding of ATC Standard Operating Procedures
  • Experience with software test conduct, integration, testing process, test and validation activities, testing methodologies and software test and analysis tools
  • Experience with Software Development using C, C++
  • Experience executing software test plans, procedures, and cases
  • Hold a current, active DOT security clearance
  • Experience with STARS or other similar Air Traffic Control systems
  • Experience designing and preparing automated testing
  • Experience with Red Hat Linux

Required Education (including Major):

  • Bachelor’s Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Aviation Engineering or a related degree
