Category Analyst


This is a Contract position in South Brunswick, NJ posted January 15, 2020.

We are seeking an experienced, driven, and capable Category Analyst who will bring a winning drive, persistence, and professionalism to support the sales and inventory planning functions by providing data analysis and support on the competitive landscape, customers POS data, merchandising, opportunity and operations.

The Category Analyst position requires extensive data analysis, will interact with many groups across the company and will coordinate and lead monthly update meetings with relevant teams.

Roles & Responsibilities Monitor market trends, industry & retailer news, competitors’ brands and products as well as our market share (shelf/flyer space) to understand trends and incorporate into sales strategies and presentations Run customized customer reports to support account managers in analyzing current business to include Vendor Performance Scorecards, weekly, monthly and Year To Date POS, Market Basket Data Maintain standard reports to track business (Lost Sales, In-stock %, Fill rates etc.) Preparation of POS snapshot with supportive insights and formal presentation for the Sales team Track flyer activity of key retailers Attend Monthly team/account meetings and where applicable network with internal functional areas Back-up for account manager as secondary contact to personnel such as Buyers, Buyer’s Assistants, Replenishment Managers, and Analysts etc.

Assist account manager as required, such as, Line Review Preparation, etc.

Conduct regular store walks (in person and via a third party service) to:
– Monitor Integrity of planogram with supportive photographs for internal review
– Investigate competitive pressures in store
– Assess promotional execution
– Compile/maintain pricing information
– Assess promotional activity
– Provide feedback & recommendations Use retailer data, information systems and metrics to maximize market share, sales and profits Manage and track customer programs in collaboration with Finance Team.

Consistently monitor and maximize customer spends to drive sales and profitability Diagnose success of promotional activities (POS and ROI) Work with the Sales Team to develop accurate sales forecasts and monitor inventory flow to ensure that sales targets are met while maintaining inventory targets Work with Marketing Team to implement approaches that drive our brand and sales through promotions, packaging and merchandising Required Skills and Experience Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accepted college or university required 2 years of CPG channel experience demonstrating steadily increasing responsibilities Strong analytical skills Acute attention to details Proven track record of results Superior communication, presentation and people skills Knowledge of Supply Chain, Finance and Marketing a plus Proficient in Windows Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to present data in an organized manner Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and exceptional drive for results Strong business acumen Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to operate with a sense of urgency Upbeat and fresh attitude Dignified and professional conduct and demeanor Superb organizational skills Ability to multitask and manage multiple accounts simultaneously Technologically savvy Desired Skills & Experience Experience specifically analyzing Housewares or related CPG industry Experience with Retail Link and/or other retailer-specific portals is a plus Amateur foodie Experience or enthusiasm working in an energetic and driven startup environment What’s Next If you are interested in joining the team, please send your resume to, along with a cover letter to let us know why you’re excited about this role and believe it is the right fit as the next step in your career.
