Responsibility This individual is accountable for leading the vision and growth strategy for assets in their therapeutic area, and for leading a cross-functional development team to deliver agreed strategic, clinical, and commercial goals.

In leading this cross-functional matrixed team, the DPL acts as the “CEO” of a late development program, accountable for the asset’s vision, strategy and execution.

This position is a vital role in the business strategy and overall success of the company, and will be a member of the extended Immunology and Fibrosis Development Leadership Team.

Strategy & Execution Creates and delivers asset/brand vision and strategy through to registration and post-market obligations.

Collaborates with other members of the cross-functional team to leverage insights from disease biology, emerging clinical and biomarker data, regulatory and competitive considerations (e.g., trends in disease area, regulatory, and market access) to deliver efficient development strategies that meet organizational goals.

Effectively represents the matrix team, engages with and utilizes governance bodies and advisory bodies to define, revise and progress asset development plans Manages performance across the matrix team, in collaboration with the functional leaders Oversees relevant sub-teams and ensures clear goals and performance standards are in place, provides feedback and coaching, and holds sub-team leaders accountable for key deliverables Continually analyzes progress, engages in critical thinking, and asserts strong problem-solving toward accelerating and delivering key data and interpretation essential for decision making on assigned projects Ensures the process and output of the team meets established program standards, while also looking for opportunities to streamline development without compromising quality.

Engages senior leaders and functional area stakeholders to ensure alignment of program strategy and operational plans with functional area capabilities Builds and manages relationships with external stakeholders (Opinion Leaders, Strategic Alliance Partners, Patient Advocacy Leaders, Health Authorities) Shapes products for competitive profile that achieves pricing, reimbursement, access and penetration for favorable shareholder return by developing target product profile, developing initial label in-line with target profile, and creating economic value dossier Drives the medical and disease strategy in partnership with commercial Drives an integrated strategy for scientific, regulatory and clinical considerations and identifies potential risk mitigation strategies Leadership & Matrix Management Forward looking, objective matrix leader with demonstrated ability to frame issues, ask the right clarifying questions, and rationalize decisions in a cost disciplined manner, with an enterprise view The ability to work in cohesion with leadership team to drive the organizational needs as a collective, integrated leadership team.

Experience/judgment to integrate information from team members/key advisors to make decisions Sets goals and objectives for asset development; ensures aligned functional and individual objectives (for self and team members) across the BMS matrix to accomplish the asset development plan.

Secures required headcount and budget to achieve global plan and drives allocation and prioritization of activities across Research and Development, including Regulatory, Worldwide Medical, etc.

Oversees relevant sub-teams and ensures clear goals and performance standards are in place, provides feedback and coaching, and holds sub-team leaders accountable for key deliverables Creates development strategies that meet Access requirements and support value story by data generation and interpretation and WWHEOR studies in place to support value story Demonstrates peer-to-peer influence across R&D functional leadership Stakeholder Engagement & Communication Manages integration points and outbound/inbound communications with key stakeholders across all BMS functional and market areas to ensure alignment and minimize risk Ensures appropriate decisions are made in a timely manner and agreed with the appropriate levels to drive PD&C milestones Development of an overall communication strategy as well as the publications strategy and plan, PR plan and broad internal communications Interpretation of key clinical trial results Interpretation of key regulatory milestones, communications, and engagements Communication of key clinical trial results and regulatory milestones to appropriate governance boards Essential Leadership Behaviors Enterprise Mindset: The ability to make decisions, set priorities and share resources based on what will benefit the whole.

This position is based in either Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville or Summit, New Jersey, or San Diego, California.

Qualifications MD , PhD, DVM, PharmD, MBA, or equivalent advanced biology degree A minimum of 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry, Health Authorities and/or academic experience, with proven progression in relevant R&D roles and significant experience in related therapeutic area Extensive working knowledge in the drug development process, along with expertise in one or more of the relevant areas (e.g.

clinical, regulatory, program management, project planning and management, medical) Understanding of the role of translational research/medicine and clinical biomarkers Understanding of relevant regulatory health authority expectations and regulations for drug development Demonstrated scientific acumen and mechanistic understanding of disease biology Ability to create a clear purpose, global vision, strategies and key priorities for competing successfully in the evolving pharmaceutical and health care industry Demonstrated ability to execute Development Plans which have global perspective and focus on product differentiation and market access, including opportunities for data driven acceleration Experience in managing and leading high performance, cross-functional teams (Matrix) or complex organizations successfully Ability to multitask across multiple exploratory development assets.
