Working within the Office of Human Resources, the Benefits Specialist provides high-level customer service, including in-depth benefits counseling and problem-solving support to managers, staff, faculty, and retirees on all benefits plans, including health, dental, vision, disability, life, retirement, flexible spending, and long term care.

The Benefits Specialist will handle administration related activities for one or several plans and be a resource for review of system activity and communications.

The Benefits Specialist will make determinations regarding eligibility, coverage and plan interpretation as needed.

The individual may also participate in process improvement and various program activities on HR functional and cross-functional project teams.

This is a one year, benefits eligible term position.

Responsibilities This position interacts with customers with a high level of professionalism and customer service.

The Benefits Specialist responds to a large number of phone calls, emails, appointments, and walk-ins by providing guidance and assistance with simple and complex problems that require research and analysis.

This position ensures transactions are processed timely and accurately when providing instruction for corrections or adjustments to payroll deduction amounts, billing, payments, or coverage.

This position works closely with the Benefits staff, the transactional team, as well as functional areas within HR.

Other duties may be assigned.
