Circulation Services Coordinator

Circulation Services Coordinator US-NJ-Princeton Job ID: 2019-10999 Type: Full-Time of Openings: 1 Category: Library Princeton University Overview The Princeton University Library seeks an energetic, detail-oriented individual with strong customer service skills to work in Firestone Circulation Services.

This position will work an evening/weekend schedule and is responsible for the operation and services of Firestone Circulation during these times.

This position provides the full range of supervisory duties for 25 student assistants who work at the Circulation Desk and the BookFinder Desk.

In addition, the incumbent manages searching projects, processes ReCAP material, and works at the Access Office assisting visitors with Library privileges.

Hours for this position will be: Sunday through Wednesday 12pm
– 8pm and Saturdays 11am
– 7pm.

Responsibilities Supervise Student Assistants: Hire, train, evaluate, approve time for 25 Circulation student assistants, including 3 student supervisors and 5 BookFinder Desk students; prepare student schedule with revisions as necessary; oversee student subbing to ensure staffing is adequate at all times; cover any gaps by rescheduling the student assistants or by working the hours in question; remain “on call” to answer questions and handle staffing emergencies evenings/weekends;prepare and maintain student manual with procedures and requirements for employment.

Manage BookFinder Desk: Responsible for training students and staff to help patrons locate books in the library stacks; prepare and maintain desk schedule, online hours, signage, and statistics.

Circulation Desk Duties: Responsible for evening/weekend operations and customer service; provide assistance in the use of Library website and catalog; perform all types of circulation services
– charge/discharge library materials, create/update/terminate patron records, collect fines; discuss and interpret Library policy and investigate complex problems associated with fines, missing material, claim returns, billing, etc.

Provide management and oversight of projects in the department which include searching for books and cleanup of various records in the database to provide accurate locations and statuses of library material; maintain statistics.

Other Duties: Process and transfer ReCAP material; assist Access Office visitors with their library privileges; process billing; maintain departmental email accounts.

Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree.

A minimum of one-year academic library experience that includes supervising student staff.

Demonstrated customer service experience and a strong commitment to serving library patrons.

Must work well under pressure and be flexible to accommodate changes in the work schedule.

Demonstrated reliability and independence, as this individual will oversee operations.

Demonstrated ability to work constructively with co-workers.

Must work quickly, accurately, and with great attention to detail.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Facility with email and Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel.

Bending and stretching, lifting books, and moving large book trucks.

Preferred: MLS or equivalent combination of a college degree and relevant work experience.

Demonstrated successful experience working with circulation services in an academic research library.
