Research Specialist I/II US-NJ-Princeton Job ID: 2020-11445 Type: Full-Time of Openings: 1 Category: Research and Laboratory Princeton University Overview The Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics seeks applicants for an animal Research Specialist I or II to join the laboratory of Joshua Rabinowitz .

The anticipated start-date is the 1st of March 2020 or later.

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal based on available funding and satisfactory performance.

The key role for this position will be managing our animal colonies.

Our lab aims to obtain a quantitative understanding of metabolism, with the overarching goal of applying this knowledge to the treatment of human disease (cancer, obesity, aging) and the production of biofuels.

In particular, our overall whole-body mammalian objective is to quantitatively measure the organ-specific production and utilization of key nutrients, including fats, sugars, amino acids, energy molecules, and vitamins/cofactors.

Thus, allowing quantitative understanding of the metabolic basis for mammalian disease and enable better diagnosis and treatment.

This is achieved by applying liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy (LC-MS) and isotope tracing, methods in which the lab is a world leader, to yeast, mammalian cells, and animal specimens.

Responsibilities Specific duties include : Mouse colony and breeding maintenance.

Mouse genotyping.

Catheter implantation surgery (technical training will be provided).

Maintaining the lab/animal facility infrastructure, organization, and management, including: Ordering/restocking supplies for animal work.

Basic maintenance of lab equipment.

Organizing/coordinating lab administration, e.g.

organizing lab cleanups, regulatory compliance, IACUC inspection, LAR liaison.

Training new lab members and animal users.

Qualifications Essential requirements/skills : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field, or equivalent animal experience.

Strong attention to detail.

Willingness to train and technically support undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work and perform in both a team environment and in isolation.

Other relevant (but not required) experience : Certification/Licensure as an Assistant.

Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) or Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT/LATG) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).

Lab management.

Mass spectrometry.

Basic molecular biology techniques.

Experience working with mice and/or rats.

The final candidate will be required to pass a background check.
