Director of Programs

Disability Allies

This is a Contract position in East Brunswick, NJ posted March 23, 2020.


Disability Allies is a social services agency located in East Brunswick, New Jersey. Disability Allies provides contracted services through the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). These services include a coaching program, provided on a statewide basis with direct support professionals working with individual clients in the field, a Saturday recreation program, and a day program that opened in August 2019.

This position reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer, and supervises the Day Program Manager and the Outreach Coordinator.


Program Management

  • Oversees the day to day work of coaching program staff, including over 150 Direct Support Professionals (DSP) working one-on-one with Disability Allies clients
  • Oversees the day to day work of day program and Saturday program staff
  • Oversees the day to day work of residential program staff (once residential programs are established)
  • Communicates regularly with COO and direct reports, and facilitates communication within staff
  • Collaborates with Chief Compliance and Finance Officer on DDD compliance issues
  • Collaborates with Human Resources Manager on training and compliance issues

Program Development

  • Collaborates with CEO and COO to develop a plan for expanding the reach of Disability Allies into residential programs
  • Collaborates with COO to investigate potential grant opportunities and respond to requests for proposals (RFPs)

Community Outreach

  • Develop and execute a Community Outreach Plan for building relationships with stakeholders throughout the area, utilizing audience identification, targeted messaging, and community engagement
  • Provide guidance and direction to Outreach Coordinator
  • Attend school meetings, and do outreach to increase consumer enrollment
  • Organize Disability Allies events to market programs and services
  • Represent Disability Allies at community events
  • Cultivate potential clients, through social media engagement and outreach, and refer potential clients to Client Services Director
  • Develop relationships with external stakeholders, such as:
  1. Group Homes
  2. Independent Living Houses and Apartments
  3. Sheltered Workshops
  4. Non-Profit Organizations
  5. Public Schools
  6. Special Educational Schools
  7. Vocational School
  8. Support Coordination Organizations (Support Coordinators will be refereed to our Client Services Director once the relationship has been established)
  • Build relationships with local and national corporations to promote our program and develop potential fundraising relationships
  • Work with marketing team to publish and share marketing and social media content to selected platforms that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action
  • All other duties as assigned

Education / Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience in management of programs for individuals with developmental disabilities in New Jersey or New York is required
  • Experience in outreach and development, particularly in the nonprofit sector, extremely helpful
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work, vocational rehabilitation, social services, or a related field

Hours: 9AM – 5PM, Monday-Friday, with some occasional weekend work
